Second Place: Schwarzschild Jewelers
Third Place: Diamonds Direct
In 1961, a Richmond woman named Jean Adolf started a costume jewelry store that later evolved into selling more upscale products. The theme was being a “traditional jewelry store where we deal face-to-face with customers and there’s no pressure,” says Ronnie Adolf, the owner who took over from his late mother and father. Adolf aims to help young couples choose their engagement rings and has been buying diamonds for 50 years. It’s also a place to clean or service personal items and repairs about 5,000 watches a year. Another Richmond stalwart is Schwarzschild Jewelers, which grew by the same principles. Diamonds Direct is a national outlet offering a big inventory.
