Clover is coming up on seven years as a popular consignment store, making the Hall of Fame. Another local favorite is Buttons & Bows. Co-owner Ann Palmore knows people will have some throwaway clothes for their children, but for 35 years Buttons & Bows has been outfitting boys and girls for special occasions with quality clothes meant to last. “We christen them, we confirm them, we send them to cotillion,” she says. “They see Santa in our clothes, go back to school in our clothes, go to tea at the Jefferson in our clothes.” With co-owner Amanda Ayers, Palmore calls the store’s look “classic with a twist” and touts its shoe department. She loves seeing at what age kids start to have agency over their style — “it varies greatly by the child” — but the people spending the most in her store are aunts, grandmothers and great-grandmothers. “We get to know families,” Palmore says.
