Second Place: Tobacco Company
Third Place: Penny Lane Pub
An authentic Irish wooden bar and darn good Irish car bombs help this Shockoe staple stay busy from Monday to Sunday. A menu largely composed of potato dishes — Irish nachos — and live music on the weekends keep the addiction fresh. Bar-goers and diners also get the option of a sizable back patio, perfect for sipping a pint with friends after work or rubbing elbows into the night. And next year will mark the pub's 15th annual St. Patrick's Day street party. The party gets bigger every year, a tented, road-closed affair that floods Shockoe with green beer. Celebrating its 35th year, the Tobacco Company Restaurant is a classic, and offers live music Thursday through Sunday — with no cover charge. Leopard print chairs and cigar girls are icing on the cake. Clubbers also appreciate the dance music and young vibe of the Tobacco Company's downstairs club, open Thursday through Saturday. Penny Lane is the go-to for diehard soccer fans. And when you hear the British accents flying around, you almost feel like you're in England.
