Second Place: Pink Tie Gala for Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Central Virginia Affiliate
Third Place: American Heart Association’s Richmond Heart Ball
Something about a black-tie event with dog collars and leashes speaks to Richmonders —and no, not in a “50 Shades of Grey” way. “It’s Richmond’s most fun and least stiff black-tie event,” Richmond SPCA director of advancement Tabitha Treloar says. “You can’t feel stuffy with a dog at your side, even at the Jefferson Hotel. It’s impossible.” Guests enjoy the splendor of the surroundings while raising funds enabling the SPCA to save more than 2,000 animals each year. The Pink Tie Gala raises funds for breast cancer awareness, grant programs, survivor support, education and research with a blow-out party and lots of dancing at the convention center ballroom. The revelry of the creatively elaborate Richmond Heart Ball deserves a gold star for hitting the $1 million mark for the first time in April, raising more than $11 million through the years for the American Heart Association.
