Bach Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin

When: Sun., Nov. 12, 4 p.m. 2017

The Chamber Music Society of Central Virginia goes minimalist for November, presenting two events that distill the concept of “chamber music” down to its essence – solo artists communicating directly with their audience. About Bach’s Chaconne for solo violin, the Romantic German composer Johannes Brahms wrote: “If I imagined that I could have created, even conceived the piece, I am quite certain that the excess of excitement and earth-shattering experience would have driven me out of my mind.” On November 12, CMSCVA presents Moscow-born violinist Johnny Gandelsman in his Richmond solo recital debut performing this and other pieces for solo violin by J. S. Bach. Then on September 17, CMSCVA partners with the Richmond Public Library to present “One to One” an informal event featuring Gandelsman and Richmond’s Chioke I’Anson who will collaborate on a rush hour event pairing pieces for solo violin and spoken word.

Price: $5-$28.
