The film tells the tale of a monster that protects the Jews of 16th-century Prague, and it has been called essential in the development of the horror genre. Critics have praised him for his ability to capture the terrifying essence of the tale with an airy and spirit conjuring touch.

In addition to this project, Lucas has played with everyone from Captain Beefheart to Lou Reed and Leonard Bernstein. In the early 1990s, he recorded and co-wrote songs with Jeff Buckley in addition to his numerous solo projects. His latest release, "The Edge of Heaven," pays homage to Chinese pop music of the 1930s, '40s and '50s. With this interesting track record, boasting more influences and styles than many better-known players, Lucas has earned the right to be called the "guitarist of 1,000 ideas."

"Der Golem" will be shown at the Virginia Holocaust Museum, 2000 E. Cary St. at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for students and are available at Plan 9. Lucas will also perform at Plan 9, Sunday, Mar. 30 at 5 p.m.
