An international cast heads up ABC-TV's production of "Arabian Nights," a four-hour miniseries based on the stories of "A Thousand and One Nights."

Mili Avital stars as the beautiful Scheherazade, with Emmy Award-winner John Leguizamo, Alan Bates and Jason Scott Lee rounding out the cast. The miniseries, airing Sunday (8 p.m.) and Monday (9 p.m.), is produced by Emmy Award-winner Robert Halmi.

Scheherazade, those familiar with the story will recall, spins tales of magic and mystery on her wedding night because her husband, the sultan of Baghdad, has vowed to have her executed at dawn. Among the stories she tells are the adventures of Ali Baba (a peasant who loots a treasure cave belonging to a vengeful master thief); the story of Aladdin (the prince of thieves); the tale of a king who trades places with a beggar; and the fable of an amazing quest for the world's greatest wonder.

"Arabian Nights" was filmed on location in Turkey and Morocco. Steve Barron ("Merlin," "The Adventures of Pinocchio") directed the miniseries, and Peter Barnes ("Merlin") developed the script. No TV parental guideline has been assigned yet.
