Animals Say the Darndest Things

A closer inspection reveals a dead bear slung from a tree by a hunter or hunters, in the outskirts of the frame, as if captured in the picture by accident. The beauty of this piece and all of this work is that it says what it says so subtly and disarmingly. These shots don't preach. They don't scream "nature good, humans bad" as some lesser artist's would, but depict the visual irony and unintentional humor occasionally wrought by man's nature encounters with a sly subversiveness. Don't be embarrassed if you find yourself snickering. Brennan discusses themes in her work Saturday (Nov. 23) at 1 p.m. 319 W. Broad St. — wayne
