The Portuguese fado is an old-fashioned form of music characterized by mournful sounds and lyrics, most recently brought back to the mainstream by fado singer Ana Moura. Known for her tone of voice, captivating interpretations and passionate stage presence, Moura has earned an international fan base with her ability to cross over into other styles while retaining the original style of fado, most evident in her recent collaborations with artists such as Mick Jagger and Prince. For her Richmond show, Moura also will hold a free lecture and performance at 3 p.m. at the University of Richmond’s Boatwright Memorial Library before her show. Ana Moura performs at the Modlin Center on Wednesday, April 3, at 7:30 p.m. $17-$34. modlin.richmond.edu.
