9 Richmond Food Events to Experience Before the End of Summer



Alfresco & Fireside Dinner Series: Throughout the summer and into fall, Mosaic Catering & Events and Dover Hall are throwing European-themed dinners on the mansion’s bluestone terrace. On Thursday, Aug. 18, at 6:30 p.m., you can enjoy rustic Italian fare by Mosaic chef Glenn Hooper paired with Italian wine, that, Mosaic says, “will transport you to the rolling hills of Tuscany.” $125. RVA BrewBQ: The scent of smoky pork will waft from the 17th Street Farmers’ Market on Sunday, Aug. 21. Twenty barbecue experts and 17 craft breweries will be on hand smoking ribs, pulled pork and brisket to chow down along with a cold one. Noon-5. 17th Street Farmers’ Market, 100 N. 17th St.

RVA Sandwich Week: For the week of Aug. 22-Aug. 28, Style has gathered 30 local restaurants that are offering $5 sandwich deals, including Early Bird Biscuit Co. & Bakery, Citizen Burger Bar and Home Sweet Home.

Lambs on the Lawn: Border collies are amazing, and I’m not just saying that because I own two. On Sunday, Aug. 21, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m., you can watch them do their stuff herding sheep, plus check out a few shearing demonstrations, while munching on some lunch from Sub Rosa Bakery, Dutch & Co. and Tomten Farm. Proceeds benefit Eastern Herding Dog Rescue. Reservations required. $10-$25, but children younger than 5 who don’t eat attend for free. Tuckahoe Plantation, 12601 River Road.

Food Truck Info Session: Have you ever wanted to start a food truck business? The City’s Office of Minority Business Development will hold a forum on business opportunities and licensing for food truck vendors at 9 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 26, in the lower conference room at 730 E. Broad St.

Night of Romance: Now’s the time to ask your sweetie to take a ride down the canal for a three-course dinner with a champagne toast Saturday, Aug. 27, at 6:30 p.m. — because advance registration is required. $225 per couple.

Central Virginia Food Truck Rodeo: It’s back to wrap up the summer — the Richmond area’s biggest round up of food trucks will take place Sunday, Aug. 28, from noon-5. You can expect more than 25 Virginia trucks, plus craft beer and wine set up outside of the Chesterfield Towne Center. 11500 Midlothian Turnpike.

Over the River Market: Perk Coffee and Lunchbox has been throwing little events all summer but the biggest will be the Over the River Market on Sunday, Aug. 28, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. The shop’s vendors will get together to create a one-day South Side market event, and Perk wants to make it an annual affair. Summer Supper with Amy’s Organic Garden: On Wednesday, Aug. 31, starting with cocktails at 5:30 p.m., Ellwood Thompson’s Local Market and Amy’s Organic Garden will serve a three-course dinner to benefit the Birdhouse Market. Every dish will be gluten-free, and vegetarians and vegans can request accommodation ahead of time. $65/$120 per couple. The Beet at Ellwood Thompson’s Local Market, 4 N. Thompson St.
