2525 West Main Café; Nuccio's

Everything is brand new inside Buddy Noble's new restaurant, 2525 West Main Café, above, but it looks like another well-worn Fan bar along Main Street. "We built it so it looks old," Noble says, "and a lot of people have a hard time believing that it wasn't a restaurant before."

It wasn't. It was Main Street Furniture Company, a dusty little used-furniture and knickknack store. Noble, who sold Cary St. Café about six years ago, gutted the location and opened 2525 in August.

Noble hired Jimmy Whaley to put together the menu and man the kitchen. Whaley is the former owner of Not Betty's and was the chef at Southern Culture for the past three years. He's decided to stick with American food, putting together a menu of standbys like crab cakes, steak and salmon.

2525 is open for dinner Monday-Saturday and for Sunday brunch. You already know the address. If you want to call, it's 204-2525.

Nuccio's, an upscale pizzeria in South Side, has been open for four months, but only now has it been able to get an ABC license. "The main concern was that I was going to open some kind of bar with live entertainment," says owner Nuccio Giambanco. " ... finally they agreed that it wasn't going to be a bar atmosphere. They got all their doubts cleared up."

The restaurant offers specialty pies, plus a variety of Italian dishes and a rotating specials menu. Nuccio's is open for lunch and dinner daily. 1108 Courthouse Road. 594-0040.
