1999’s latest and greatest gifts, for the young and not-so-young.

Terrific Turn-of-the Century Toys

The season is upon us, and once again we attempt here to enlighten your gifted self, open your eyes to some of the possibilities. We know you know about Lego Mindstorm, MP3s and Sega Dreamcast. (What’s that? You don’t? Oh dear, well … there’s no time to bring you up to speed on the basic trends of the day, but, just for you, we’ll include a couple in the mix).

This year we’ve rounded up some of the coolest, funnest, latest and greatest toys, using the term loosely, of the day. It’s our hope that in 20 years you’ll be cleaning off your desk and find this gift guide and say, “Wow! Remember when freestyle bikes were all the rage back in ’99?”

Because toys are not just for the kiddies, we’ve thrown in lots of neat grown-up stuff, too. Some are a bit extravagant, some totally practical. And there’s plenty more where all of this came from … just consider these pages to be playful inspiration.
