Guitarist and composer Scott Burton’s long-running all-star band includes some of the area’s best-known players: saxophonist John Lilley, bassist Cameron Ralston, drummer Scott Clark and No BS Brass founder and Bon Iver sideman Reggie Pace. Their forthcoming collaboration with hip-hop artist John Robinson is as logical as it is surprising. Robinson’s crisp, rapid-fire verse contrasts with and complements the dark, sinuous funk of the breakdown. This is an unmixed tape from the session, a first-take dispatch from the band’s new territory. That may make this something of a preview through grimy glass, but there’s a power and charm in these rough edges that no amount of polishing could improve. glowsinthedark.wordpress.com.
