+7 Hometown star and Collegiate grad Russell Wilson throws two touchdown passes in leading the Seattle Seahawks to a Super Bowl win. Collegiate students are filled with hope that they don’t have to settle for a career as a doctor, lawyer or Wall Street exec.

-1 Speaking of the Super Bowl, Times-Dispatch headline writers get somewhat hyperbolic about the Richmond connection, with a front page that blares: “RVA Powers Win.” Just think how much credit they would have taken for a Redskins victory!

+2 In another big face-off, the Richmond Spiders and VCU Rams draw a passionate crowd courtside to the Battle for the Capital, with the Rams winning 81-70. There was no actual battling, though the VCU Peppas come armed with weapons of brass destruction.

+3 Richmond lands on CNN’s list of the “10 Hottest Housing Markets for 2014.” We aren’t sure whether that means it’s a good time to buy or sell, but we do know the Realtors win either way.

+1 Mayor Dwight Jones delivers his State of the City address, playing up financial figures from the Redskins training camp, the need to improve schools and pushing for a ballpark-led redevelopment of Shockoe Bottom. He remains mum about whether we’ll ever see the arrival of cronuts.
