The Score

A weekly rating of the city zeitgeist.

+5 With a new coach, a new stadium and their first home football game on campus in 82 years, the University of Richmond Spiders beat Elon in overtime, 27-21. The win created so much campus afterglow, let's just say quarterback Aaron Corp hasn't left all his Trojans behind.

-3 Police charge a Chesterfield County couple in connection with more than 80 residential burglaries since the beginning of the year, mostly in rural areas of central Virginia. Guys, how many Xboxes and coin collections do you need?

+4 The White House announces that President Obama will stop in Richmond on Sept. 29 for a conversation with “middle-class families” to discuss economic issues. He would meet with a lower-class family, but none of them had a backyard big enough for his helicopter to land in.

+1 Busch Gardens and Water Country USA announce the biggest capital investments in the parks' history, expanding with new rides, bigger attractions and — get this! — an overhaul of the Oktoberfest village. As long as the WA┬Črstl is big and the steins runneth over, we're ready to be another one of the Bierleichen.

+6 The State Fair of Virginia gears up for 10 days of rides, food, racing pigs and good times in its second season at the new Meadow Event Park. Plus! After the dairy goat milking demonstration, Christine O'Donnell shows off her witchcraft on the midway! Take Interstate 95 North, and you'll be parked by Friday.
