The Score

A weekly rating of the city zeitgeist.

+7 Official St. Patrick's Day celebrations come to a close with a sunny weekend at the 25th annual Church Hill Irish Festival. No one found the pot o' gold, though you could find some pretty good puffing behind the line of Port-O-Potties off Franklin.

+4 In Henrico, some 600 students at Deep Run High School join in a 27-hour dance marathon to raise more than $136,000 for local charities. This marks the first time “The Cha Cha Slide” has been used for the forces of good.

-2 After rowdy dissention over conflicting opinions on a new charter school for Richmond, the Richmond Crusade for Voters and its president, Antione Green, part ways — with vice president James “J.J.” Minor stepping down too. We'd write a joke here, but who wants to risk getting on the Crusade's bad side?

+1 In the Times-Dispatch, debate brews over a proposal to build a new city jail in the South Side's Lucky Strike Industrial Park, rather than fixing and expanding the current one. We say scrap it all and put the criminals on an island in the James River, where the fear of giant catfish and sewer waste would put an end to escapes.

+5 Movie fans gear up for the James River Film and French Film festivals to be held through the week and into the weekend, showcasing independent and foreign cinema. Or you could just watch “Hot Tub Time Machine.” Your call ...
