It’s a family affair, as Sly Stone might have put it. On Friday, Feb. 17, Black Iris Social Club will play host to “A Night with the Brothers Parker,” a bill shared by the impossibly dexterous guitarist Alan Parker and Ruth Good, the Citrus City Records-affiliated indie rock band led by two brothers of Alan’s: Jonathan and Wes Parker.
As those in attendance for Alan Parker’s recent Sefton Listening Room set can attest, the frequent Spacebomb collaborator has range for days. Covers and original compositions, subtle acoustic work and pedal-manipulated electric exploration, instrumental efforts and lyric songwriting — it’s all within Parker’s reach, and the only question is where he’ll go next.
Speaking of songwriting, Ruth Good’s 2020 EP “Haunt” is as accomplished and catchy as they come, a four-song gem in which verses, choruses and moments in between all find ways of grabbing your attention and demanding another listen. “Haunt” was Ruth Good’s second Citrus City cassette release, following the band’s debut “Spliff” EP by three years.
Alan contributed guitar to both “Haunt” and “Spliff,” and Wes — also a member of Camp Howard — sang on the most recent addition to Alan’s Bandcamp portfolio, a single called “Amelia” released in September. But you’ll have to stop by Black Iris to see whether all three brothers grace the stage simultaneously. Maybe for a certain Sly and the Family Stone cover?
Ruth Good and Alan Parker will perform at Black Iris Social Club on Friday, Feb. 17. Doors open at 8 p.m., music starts at 9 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance ($15 the day of the show) and can be purchased at https://checkout.square.site/buy/3OPQ3ULXNKR7457QDZNYVMXB.
