Acclaimed local actor Devin Druid has scored another choice gig.
He'll be part of the talented young cast of the new Netflix series "13 Reasons Why," which is based on the New York Times bestselling young adult book by Jay Asher that was published in 2007.
The series will feature "Goosebumps" star Dylan Minnette and Australian newcomer Katherine Langford for its 13-episode run. It is being produced by Selena Gomez, directed by Tom McCarthy ("Spotlight") and written by Brian Yorkey.
The book's plot is described at Wikipedia as a story involving a group of high school students who are sent cassette tapes by classmate Hannah Baker, who recently committed suicide. The tapes are to be passed among each of the 13 people explaining why they were the reasons the student committed suicide.
"I know the book means a lot to those who read it, and I really think this show honors that. It's being so incredibly well done," says Druid via e-mail to Style. "I can't get into details about the show, but my character, Tyler, is really complex. There are a lot of layers to him."
As for what drew the young actor to the show, he says it was the writing.
"The script is so good, I couldn't wait to see more. Then finding out Tom McCarthy was on board, along with Anonymous Content, really sealed the deal for me," Druid explains. "Anonymous Content is really the gold standard for me as an actor. They are involved in some of the most interesting and amazing projects out there: 'Mr. Robot, 'The Revenant,' 'Spotlight,' 'True Detective' . . . they really respect the art involved in creating these films/tv series and working with them is a dream come true. And Tom, from writing UP, to winning the Oscar for 'Spotlight,' I'm just a huge fan and thrilled to get to work with someone of his caliber."

Druid describes himself as "the guy that eats cereal at 3 am. 18-year-old actor, comic reader, nerd gamer & professional popcorn catcher."
