We’re all excited about seeing cookbook author and host of Food Network’s Emmy and James Beard Award-winning “Barefoot Contessa Back to Basics” Ina Garten early next year. Tickets for the Carpenter Theatre show at 7:30 p.m. on February 25 officially go on sale Nov. 20.
However, Style readers can get a jump on that. Use the password FOOD today, Nov. 17, starting at 10 a.m. until 10 p.m., and you can buy tickets before the rest of the teeming masses of foodies do. Here’s a link to the ticket sale page.
There won’t be any fancy pyrotechnics or long, not-so-funny monologues in Garten’s show. Moderator and author Deborah Davis will join her on-stage for a conversation about her life and career, along with an audience Q&A.
Garten is the author of eight New York Times bestselling cookbooks and is one of the calmest and most reassuring hosts in a sea of sometimes bombastic shows on the Food Network. She’s taught a generation how to throw a dinner party without the ahead-of-time, backstage drama those events can sometimes cause. Or is that just me? Her recipes are clear and as I read them, I can hear her gentle, guiding voice in my head. The anxiety level dips. Even if you’re the rare breed that doesn’t sweat throwing a party, her recipes reliably work and are reliably delicious.
With Thanksgiving looming over everyone’s head, her recipe for make-ahead turkey might be the lifesaver you need. Impossible you say, to make a turkey ahead? Garten makes it SO.
And if you’re looking for a weeknight dish to hold you over until the big day, I cannot recommend her crispy mustard-roasted chicken from her 2013 book “Barefoot Contessa Foolproof” enough. I made a fumbling version of this for years until I found hers — infinitely better than anything I ever came up with.
So — Ina Garten, in person at the Carpenter Theatre. Buy those advance tickets now. The password is FOOD.
