Update: Nile to Reopen in Church Hill

Citizen Burger Bar moving into Portrait House space.

Portrait House, at 2907 W. Cary St., will close and Citizen Burger Bar will move in as soon as next month, owner Hamooda Shami says.

Shami, who also is co-ownre of New York Deli and Don't Look Back on the same block of West Cary Street, and Yearbook Taco in Charlottesville, opened Portrait House in 2013, and it became the home of Nile Ethiopian Cuisine in 2014 after owners Yoseph and Benyam Teklemariam were forced to close their storefront on Laurel Street.

Citizen Burger Bar is owned by Andy McClure's Charlottesville-based Virginian Restaurant Co., which also includes the Virginian, West Main Restaurant, the Biltmore Grill and two other Citizen Burger Bars.

"Call us sentimental, but we’d prefer to give our crew and our customers a chance to say goodbye to a place that gave us so many great (albeit hazy) memories," Shami says about the closing on Portrait House's Facebook page. "We’ll also be doing a ton of absurd specials in our closing weeks, leading up to our last day on Sunday, Dec. 13."

The Teklemariams plan to reopen the Nile as a take-out spot in Church Hill.

CORRECTION: It was originally stated that the Nile was located on Harrison Street. It was actually located on Laurel Street.
