Wonder Power

Comic Con will be returning to Richmond in 2015.

Wizard World’s inaugural Richmond comic con last weekend was such a big hit that a date has already been set for next year’s convention, to be held July 31 to Aug. 2.

Like its big cousin, the San Diego Comic Con, Wizard World Richmond featured the chance for fan boys and fan girls to meet and greet a host of celebrities with major geek cred, including Bruce Campbell of “Evil Dead” and “Burn Notice” fame, 1960s “Batman” stars Adam West and Burt Ward, and former Ghostbuster Ernie Hudson.

There was also tons of merch to be had for the buying, from genuine Legend of Zelda-inspired swords and shields to T-shirts, posters, action figures, statues and even some comic books.

More than anything though, Wizard World Richmond was about community and giving the nerdy and geeky a chance to party together and let their freak flags fly. Many fans came garbed in incredible cosplay outfits including giant anime robots, super heroes (We’re looking at you, Deadpools!) and obscure characters from Web comics. An enterprising pair of sisters from Culpeper won the costume contest for their ingenious cosplay as Ripley and Newt from “Aliens,” complete with homemade mech suit.

For a look at some of Wizard World Richmond’s colorful fans, including Jedis, Batmen and everything in between, check out the album below.
