J. Plunky Branch may not have built Richmond's house of jazz, but you could say he put in the light fixtures. Branch, with more than 24 albums under his belt, has been on the local music scene for more than 30 years, but has fans on other continents. His latest release, "Cold Heat," features a track produced by his son-in-law Danja Mowf, who uses a sample from a 1975 Plunky record, "African Rhythms." The song has enjoyed airplay on the nationally syndicated "Michael Baisden Show," one of the few radio programs left with the balls to play new music. The veteran saxophonist plays the Martini Kitchen & Bubble Bar Feb. 15-16 at 9:30 p.m. $10. 254-4904.
