UR's Artists eighth blackbird Win Grammy

Eighth blackbird, the new-music sextet in residence at the University of Richmond, won a Grammy Award for best chamber music performance for its album "Strange Imaginary Animals."

"We're very excited," Lisa Kaplan, the group's pianist, said Sunday night by phone from Pittsburgh, where a dinner party had morphed into a Grammy bash. Classical musicians draw little tangible benefit from the award other than "a little Grammy statue we can put on our mantles," Kaplan said, but "we'll work it for all it's worth" for enhanced name recognition.

Judith Sherman won the classical producer of the year Grammy for "Strange Imaginary Animals" and four other discs.
