Tommy Emmanuel at the National

You get the feeling that if Tommy Emmanuel were ever stricken with some bizarre disease or condition that left him permanently mute, as long as he had a guitar in hand he could still tell you everything he needed to say. Operating in the company of such other guitar virtuosos as Chet Atkins, Doyle Dykes and Tim Reynolds, Emmanuel uses a combination of vigorous finger picking and percussive effects that often makes it difficult to imagine that one person is responsible for it. On the road supporting his latest album, “Center Stage,” catch him at the National on Sunday, Feb. 22, at 6:30 p.m. $20-$25. 612-1900 or www.thenationalva.com. — Mike Hilleary
