Together as They Might Be Giants, John Flansburgh and John Linnell have always maintained a charming, geeky sense of humor toward pop music, whether it was their early days building a cult following with dial-a-song service — an answering-machine-supported phone line that allowed listeners to hear the band's new material — or their most recent ventures in the genre of children's music. Quirky, kooky, but always with a sense of precision and fun, the guys behind such underground hits as “Istanbul (Not Constantinople)” and “Birdhouse in Your Soul,” are scheduled to perform the entirety of their 1990 album, “Flood,” as well as a number of their greatest hits, when they play the National on Thursday, March 11, at 7 p.m. $20-$23.
