Serendipity has certainly played its part for the members of New York indie folk trio the Spring Standards. This three-piece, made up of multi-instrumentalists James Smith, James Cleare and Heather Robb, initially began its music pursuits as teenagers, performing together until high school graduation and eventually going separate ways. Years later members reconnected, realizing that they all lived just a few blocks from one another in the Big Apple. The Spring Standards have since established themselves as a band to watch, delivering beautiful three-part vocal harmonies over country-tinged rock arrangements, regularly switching instrumental duties and splitting the drum kit into sections to be played by everyone at the same time. On the road supporting their debut LP, “Would Things Be Different,” the Spring Standards perform at Ashland Coffee and Tea on Thursday, June 23, at 8 p.m. $10-$15. 798-1702.
