The Scorpio Brothers at the Roosevelt

Saturday, Feb. 22. 10 p.m.

Marty Key and Troy Hurt are quintessential music nerds. As the vinyl-spinning DJ tag team the Scorpio Brothers, the two lifelong crate diggers have spent the better part of their lives turning people, me included, on to music they might not otherwise have heard. The dynamic duo brings their turntables and bounty of rare tracks to the Roosevelt on Saturday for a danceable Virginia music history lesson appropriately called Sounds of Virginia. Centering on music made in the ’60s and ’70s, Key and Hurt will play little-known funk, soul, R&B, gospel and garage rock tunes made in the commonwealth that they’ve rescued from obscurity through years of compulsive record collecting. We all should be thankful for these selfless music nerds for proving that obsessive behavior isn’t always a bad thing. The needle gets put to vinyl at 10 p.m. Free.
