With an array of songs integrating traditional Jewish philosophies and secular wisdom, the a cappella group the Maccabeats recently took YouTube by storm with hit songs such as “Candlelight,” a take-off on Taio Cruz’s “Dynamite,” and “The Purim Song,” based on Pink’s hit, “Raise Your Glass.” The 14-member group from Yeshiva University takes popular songs and transforms them into relevant and often humorous reflections on Jewish life. The group also features Richmond’s Ari Lewis, a graduate of the Rudlin Torah Academy, who will return home along with the other members of the Maccabeats, when they perform at the Oates Theater at Collegiate School on Saturday, Nov. 12, at 7 p.m. $10-$25.
