Prabir and the Substitutes have had a good run. The Richmond-based combo has put out three CDs inspired by loud, '60s pop and toured from coast to coast. Although band members are calling it quits, they still toil on musical projects, and some of those sessions involve musicians from other bands playing the Ghost of Pop music festival at Gallery 5 on Dec. 12. Which is exactly what founder Prabir Mehta had in mind when he started the festival five years ago — to cross-pollinate the overlooked Richmond pop community. Since then, various popsters have intermingled and ended up on each other's records or shared stages. This year marks the culmination of those efforts and the last show ever for Prabir and the Substitutes. The fifth annual Ghost of Pop Festival will also feature David Shultz and the Skyline, Long Arms, Palominos, Horsehead, Jason Horst and the Best of the Worst, and Zac Hryciak and the Jungle Beat. The fun begins at 7 p.m. 200 W. Marshall St. 644-0005.
