The Fifth Annual Bar Guide

by Stephanie Colpo, Don Harrison, Hilary Langford, Jack Lauterback, Robey Martin, Colby Rogers, Jason Roop and Deveron Timberlake

Nobody and nothing is perfect, or that's what they say. But if perfection can be felt, doesn't it exist? When friends are huddled close on a hot Saturday with nowhere to go and everything to say, and you hear the pop-hiss-ahh from a bottle cap flicked from a cold beer into outer space. When the sweet, limey tartness of a caipirinha sends a zing to your brain, dulled by life's gravity. Wake up, it says empathetically, there's a summer breeze over the James and your bills can wait. When an unexpected shooter is plunked down before you, and there's that darn Red Bull again, but you forgive his rude participation when the spikes of adrenaline rush through your veins and into your heart. And you feel infallible and so is your bartender, and you're living the good life you heard so much about, and your vestibulo-ocular reflex isn't stabilizing your vision as well as is should but that's OK, because the stranger next to you is the best person in the entire world who was destined to sit here and have this conversation with you at this one moment in time, and if you see two or three of him, that's OK. And now you know that all of them were wrong, and there are perfect people, and places, and moments. Until it all wears off tomorrow. — Jason Roop
