After releasing its self-titled debut album in 1995, Richmond native ska band the Ernies became a steady force in the scene during their short career. Not just a ska band, the Ernies dabbled in hybrid styles with hip-hop and metal that quickly got them noticed. During a tour across the United States in the late ’90s, the Ernies were discovered by a record executive and signed to Mojo Records. The popular album “Meson Ray” soon followed, and with it came a slew of rabid fans, as well as songs featured in numerous advertisements and shows. Rumors have circulated that the band had a few more shows in it. Although the Ernies are back together for a night, not all its members will be able to make it. But mainstays Will Hummel, Matt Goves and Mike Hughes will be playing power-trio style, and will invite a few old friends to join in for some horn-infused fun. The Ernies perform at the Camel on Thursday, Jan. 3, at 9 p.m. The price has yet to be determined. thecamel.org.
