The Diamond Center
  • The Diamond Center
I’ve always been a little scared of psychedelic rock. Mindless (i.e., boring) indulgences aside, the connotation invokes a myriad of drug-addled, musical bummers. The Diamond Center, fronted by Austin, Texas transplants Kyle Harris and Brandi Price, aren’t plasma drainers. Their take on acid-drenched rock doesn’t endlessly contemplate the meaning of existence, instead using MC5’s propensity for Sun Ra incorporations as a springboard to kick out their own jams and not for monotonous melodic appropriation. As with all things even vaguely psychedelic, they take their sweet time to impart their intoxications. But instead of using the process to enhance stupefaction, the Diamond Center’s loosely tight explorations free the mind so the ass can follow. They play Thursday, Oct. 10, at the Well, with Nashville duo the Ttotals and Ryan Muldoon’s dizzying sound delivery system, Revolt of the Apes. Doors open at 10 p.m. Admission is free. thewellrva.com.
