Folk punk doesn’t even begin to describe the music of Santa Cruz band the Devil Makes Three. As an acoustic trio consisting of two guitarists and a bassist, the group’s music encompasses a blend of bluegrass, old-time music, country, ragtime and blues, and its live shows prove that the music is anything but simple to play. The group is touring in support of its newest LP, 2011’s “Stomp and Smash,” recorded during two sold-out nights at the Mystic Theater in Petaluma, Calif., as well as working on new material for its ever-expanding repertoire of songs. Expect some pleasant surprises when the Devil Makes Three performs at Capital Ale House on Tuesday, Jan. 8, at 9:15 p.m. $12-$15. capitalalehouse.com.
