As the end of the year approaches, many people reminisce, give thanks and look to the future. Essentially that’s what Kwanzaa’s all about. The Elegba Folklore Society celebrates the holiday of thanksgiving and renewal with the Capital City Kwanzaa Festival, which brings in the creator of Kwanzaa, Maulana Karenga, who created the cultural holiday and the nguzo saba, the seven principles, in 1966. Also on tap for the day’s entertainment is music from Kevin Davis and Ban Caribe, Jon Bibbs and Africa Unplugged, plus Elegba’s African dancers and drummers, an African market, food and workshops. The Capital City Kwanzaa Festival takes place at the Showplace Exhibition Center on Saturday, Dec. 29, from 1-9 p.m. $5-$7. 644-3900.
