Richmond's deadliest month by far was September, registering more than a quarter of the year's homicides: 11. But there were few changes in the picture emerging from statistics on paper. There were 41 homicides in 2010, 37 in 2011, and 42 in the year gone by. The youngest victim was 17, the oldest was 59. Five were women. In other too-familiar trends, 31 of Richmond's homicide victims — nearly three-quarters — were black men. And more than half of those struck down, 22 of them, didn't live to see their 30th birthday.
