Ted Nugent at the National

Saturday, Aug. 17. 7 p.m.

Ted Nugent is funny. Not content to slowly fade away on the oldies circuit, he stubbornly refuses to be forgotten, transforming himself from washed-up, aging rocker into the thinking man’s idiot. Echoing the narcissistic cock rock that made him famous during the 1970s, his new career — as the media’s go-to guy for crazy talk — eschews nuance for blaring bombast. After all, he didn’t get the Motor City Madman moniker for nothing. The self-proclaimed Great White Buffalo comes to the National on Saturday to do what he does best: Being one of the best, balls-to-wall rock guitar players on the planet. Granted, he’s contented himself musically to rehashing past glories for decades now, and he’s been in full-blown chicken-little mode since the black guy got into office. But that aside, the man is a beast on the six string. Nugent plays the National, 708 E. Broad St., on Saturday, Aug. 17. Doors open at 7 p.m. General admission tickets are $25 and $30 for reserved balcony seating. nationalrva.com.
