While it takes a select kind of flair for someone to use words like orange, angst or month, and somehow put them in a creative, rhyming context, it's not much of a stretch to assume the talent taking part in the Canal Club's Well Versed variety show would be able to untie such a colloquial knot. Branching off from its long-running Tuesday Verses: the Open Mic Experience, the inaugural performance of this new monthly concert series features a period of social lounging at which guests are able to listen to music's lyrical greats and enjoy reminiscent children's games — Connect Four, checkers, and pickup sticks — all leading to the diverse performances of wordsmith ensemble the Verses Crew, poetry slam champion, Narrator, and music of soul and jazz outfit the Fuzz Band (pictured). Appreciate an evening of unbridled discourse from 8 p.m.-1 a.m. at the Canal Club on Saturday, Jan. 10. $10-$15. — Mike Hilleary
