State of Grapes

Richmond has learned to drink more than Chablis and merlot, due in no small part to the patient education of long-running wine merchants such as J Emerson on Grove Avenue, Strawberry Street Vineyard in the Fan and the various incarnations (Grape being the latest) started by Bill Robinson. Julia Battaglini at River City Cellars infused life into the wine-tasting dinner by pairing with places such as Six Burner and Acacia, and Bob Kocher, the man who sold us our first beer at Price's Market, now recommends an adventurous Gewürztraminer to go with salmon at Once Upon a Vine. Bob Talcott makes French wines fun at Can Can Brasserie and has no shortage of enthusiasm for recruiting converts to the pleasures of the vine.
