Snoop Dogg at the National

Friday, March 25

Over the years rapper Snoop Dogg has become something of an enduring anomaly within the hip-hop community. While former contemporaries such as Jay-Z and Dr. Dre shuffle in and out of self-imposed retirement status and battle the relevancy of age, wealth and fame against fading street cred and ambitious new acts (i.e. upstarts Odd Future), Snoop has been consistently ubiquitous since his debut, “Doggystyle.” Aided by his outrageously pimptastic demeanor, his self-referential cameos in film, and a string of successful guest spots on popular pop singles (Pussycat Dolls' “Buttons” and Katy Perry's “California Gurls”), the man behind the addendum phrase “izzle” is still strong at what he does best. Leading up to the release of his album “Doggumentary,” which features appearances by Kanye West, John Legend and Willie Nelson, Snoop Dogg is scheduled to perform with a full band at the National on Friday, March 25, at 8 p.m. $30-$35.
