When major record company EMI made the decision to revive its hip-hop subsidiary Priority Records in 2006, the trek into rebuilding a fallen franchise was slow going. There had been a time when the LA-based label had numerous rap icons, including Dr. Dre, Ice Cube and Eazy-E, but operations were eventually ceased when it was absorbed by the record industry giant in 2004. Possibly taking cues from Def Jam, which briefly appointed Jay-Z as the company's president, Priority recently turned to an established name in the genre to jump start the business: perennial gangsta rapper Snoop Dogg. Hired to the executive position of creative chairman, Snoop would issue his 10th studio album “Malice N Wonderland” as the label's maiden release. Featuring tracks that touch on his G-funk origins and showcase his veteran word flow, Snoop Dogg is scheduled to perform new songs and old at the National with Black Liquid and Photosynthesizers on Wednesday, Feb. 24, at 7 p.m.,
