“Smoke of the Gods” and “Coffee and Cigarettes” at the VMFA

In tribute of the “Xu Bing: Tobacco Project” exhibition, author Eric Burns will speak on the topic of his book, “The Smoke of the Gods: A Social History of Tobacco.” Burns has been an NBC news correspondent, host of “Fox News Watch” and a “Today Show” personality, and has been credited as one the finest writers in the history of television news. A screening of Jim Jarmusch’s 2004 film “Coffee and Cigarettes,” starring Bill Murray and Steve Buscemi, will follow the talk. It’s a dryly comic series of short vignettes with characters engaged in diverse and offbeat conversations. While smoking.
