One of the great perks of reaching that top tier of success as a touring musical artist is that you no longer have to worry about lugging around your gear, loading and unloading all the amps, instruments and mics, and making sure they're properly looked after. Guys such as Knoxville's Shortwave Society aren't privy to such private security assurance, which can be a huge kick in the gut when your van gets stolen and emptied of $25,000 worth of equipment, instruments and merchandise. Like most scrappy indie ensembles, this off-kilter chamber pop group is crawling its way out of the financial setback by playing more gigs. Promoting the release of its debut full-length, “Voyeur,” featuring plenty of surreal lyrics, unconventional arrangements and electronics, Shortwave Society performs at the Camel on Wednesday, Feb. 23, at 7 p.m. $5.
