It’s hard not to like Sheer Mag. Lighthearted without being superfluous, the Philadelphia band makes good time rock ’n’ roll for the soul. Its infectious beats, words and riffs recall the retro futures of Chain and the Gang, King Khan and the BBQ Show, as well as Richmond’s own garage merchants, the Ar-Kaics, with the sweet toughness of the Shangri-Las pumping through their punky veins. With primarily dance music, the group shouts and shimmies with go-go boot gusto that’s best experienced while busting a move. Sheer Mag brings its timeless party aesthetic to Strange Matter on Saturday, March 14. Richmond groups Lady God, Christi and Latter-Day Saints and No Love from Raleigh, North Carolina, open. Doors are at 9 p.m. Admission is $8. strangematterrva.com.
