Do I want to see a movie that describes itself as a destructive orgy of violence? Yes I do. I like my B-movie horror films to be over-the-top gore fests. Throw in a couple of aliens, a xenophobic government and men in pink suits using cool-looking technology and you have a recipe for prime escapist fun. “Science Team,” the locally made film premiering Saturday, Jan. 4, at the Byrd Theatre, is all that and more. Produced by Buncom Media International, the film was shot in Richmond and Ashland and follows an elite group of females who protect earth from the evils of extraterrestrials and man-made threats. What’s most striking about all the exploding heads, monsters and comedic exploitations is how high-budget the film looks despite the pittance ($15,000) for which it was made. The debut screening is at 2 p.m. at the Byrd Theatre. Admission is $5. An afterparty will be held at Portrait House following the showing, and another free afterparty at Gallery5 will feature bands including the Milkstains, Heavy Midgets, Toxic Moxie and Navi at 7 p.m., with a $5 suggested donation. byrdtheatre.com.
