It's a classic tale of girl meets boy, boy kills girl's sister's fiancé in a duel, girl marries some other rich guy and boy realizes he's been an idiot. Aleksandr Pushkin's classic 1833 novel in verse, "Eugene Onegin," transformed into an opera by the tortured Peter Tchaikovsky in the 1870s, is as dramatic, heartbreaking and revealing of Russian culture as ever. The Virginia Opera's unique rendition, conducted by Peter Mark and Joseph Walsh and directed by Julia Pevzner, comes to the Landmark Theater Friday, Feb 29, at 8 p.m. and Sunday, March 2, at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $20-$85.
