For the past several years Chicago's hardcore punk revivalist Rise Against has found a knack for rallying the young and disenchanted. With albums entitled “Siren Song of the Counter Culture” and “The Sufferer and the Witness,” and songs such as “Savior,” “Prayer of the Refugee” and “Collapse (Post-Amerika),” the band's mix of gritty social criticism, fist-pumping choruses and straining vocal assertiveness maintains a balance between melodic accessibility and explosive ferocity. On the road supporting its latest release, the politically tinged “Appeal to Reason,” Rise Against is scheduled to play the National on Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. as part of 102.1 FM the X's Not So Silent Night. Opening will be After Midnight Project and Landmines.
