By the time it released its 2008 debut album, “The Rumb Line,” Syracuse, N.Y.-based chamber pop ensemble Ra Ra Riot had gotten plenty of buzz-worthy accolades thanks to popular live shows and a strong self-titled EP. While enduring the kind of personal setbacks that no group of young kids should go through (the drummer and co-founder was found dead in the summer of 2007 after disappearing from a party), Ra Ra Riot is unfazed musically, punching out the kind of the melodically polite, preppy pop tunes that breeze along perfectly with the balladry of violin and cello arrangements. On the road in support of its sophomore effort, “The Orchard” (mixed by Death Cab for Cutie's Chris Walla and Vampire Weekend's Rostam Batmanglij), Ra Ra Riot is scheduled to perform at the Jefferson Theater in Charlottesville on Friday, March 4, at 8 p.m.
