Influential in transforming rebellious street rhymes into powerful rhetoric, Public Enemy remains one of the most important acts to come out of the hip-hop genre. Led by the confrontational activism of Chuck D and his jester foil Flavor Flav (whose sunglasses and oversized clock necklace became a visual symbol for the group), Public Enemy's literate outrage and ingenious, record-scratching beats galvanized the black community with a sense of socio-political change. With the uncompromising messages of, “Yo! Bum Rush the Show” and “It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back” holding strong 20 years after their initial release, Public Enemy continues to motivate audiences into more morally conscience territory. Public Enemy is scheduled to perform at the Hat Factory on Friday, Sept. 10, at 7 p.m. $30-$35.
