Poker Face

Known for his witty and sarcastic observation on pop-culture artifacts, Michael Ian Black knows how to sell a joke. His outrageous commentaries on VH1's "I Love the [fill in the decade]" are consistently delivered with a straight face, as if he has no idea how absurd his words sound. That's probably why he was a regular competitor on "Celebrity Poker Showdown." But he honed those absurdist chops on the now-venerated MTV sketch show "The State" (giving us, among other things, a quantity of pudding to show for his $240). Black will be joined by fellow "State" alum Michael Showalter (who, as Doug, was outta heeeere), who's also appeared on "The Daily Show" and had the nerve to name his Web-exclusive show "The Michael Showalter Showalter." The funnymen come to Toad's Place Friday, Feb. 1, at 9 p.m. Tickets are $20. 648-TOAD.
