Peter Max, the internationally known, German-born American illustrator and graphic artist, has one of the rarest designations the art world can bestow: He’s a living legend. Most artists receive the big accolades only after their passing, but Max, starting with his legendary line of clocks for General Electric in the late 1960s, made an immediate impact on culture by capturing the public’s imagination. On Friday, Oct. 18, “Peter Max: A Retrospective 1960-2013” opens at Chasen Gallery. The exhibit features never-before-seen creations by Max from his iconic pop art designs to the 2013 unveiling of his design for the cruise ship Breakaway. Opening-night festivities are 6-8. Reservations are being accepted for his gallery appearances scheduled for Oct. 26 and 27. For details call 204-1048, email firstname.lastname@example.org or visit chasengalleries.com.
